Tim Ashley applauds the singers and orchestra in his review of this at page 97 of the January 2023 Gramophone. But he disapproves of Wake-Walker’s approach of “theater as artifice” in which the HT audience is “never allowed to forget for a second that what we are watching is an illusion.” Does this suggest you should buy the CD instead of the Blu-ray? Well, it appears there is no CD. And Gramophone gave the Blu-ray it’s Video of the Month Award. The rather perfunctory trailer below doesn’t help us much. We need another review of this!
