Francesco Ivan Ciampa conducts the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, the Orchestra Giovanelle della Via Emilia, and the Coro del Teatro Regio di Parma (Chorus Master Martino Faggiani). Neil Fisher reports in the July 2020 Gramophone, page 79-80, that this is set on a “warship in a dystopian future”, with designs perhaps inspired by Wong Kar-wai’s science fiction movie 2046. This “art installation” approach seems like something you would expect in Brussels or Berlin, but not in Parma. But now, it seems, even the Italians and Dynamic are trying to get out of the ruts of the past and into the issues of the present.
